SubEasy supports a lot of languages, but it works by uploading your media and its free plan is 3 transcripts a day. If the file is unreleased, confidential, or simply large, doing it locally is the better trade.
Advanced options
This tool is built and verified for English. Other languages run on the same small model and are noticeably less accurate — expect to correct a lot of the output. Chinese comes out in Traditional characters.

Upload versus local
Every hosted transcription service works the same way: your file goes to their server, a model runs there, and the text comes back. That is convenient and usually fast, and the better services handle far more languages and audio conditions than anything that fits in a browser.
It also means your media sits on someone else's machine, and that the free tier is rationed — SubEasy allows three transcripts a day.
When local is the better trade
- Unpublished or confidential material — a rough cut, an embargoed interview, a client review, an internal recording.
- Large files. A multi-gigabyte master takes longer to upload than to transcribe.
- Volume. No daily cap, because there is no server cost to recover.
- Working offline after the first model download.
When SubEasy is the better choice
If you need broad language coverage, speaker labels, translation, or you simply want it done in seconds rather than minutes, use a hosted service. Browser-based tools use the small Whisper sizes; their accuracy on languages other than English is not comparable, and ours is English-only.

Does this replace SubEasy entirely?
No. It replaces it for the case where you do not want the file to leave your machine, or you have hit the daily limit. For language breadth and speed, hosted services are ahead.
Is there a daily limit here?
No — no account, no quota, no length limit.

Nothing. Transcription runs in your browser via WebAssembly.
